On Tuesday, Governor Hyacinth Alia initiated the delivery of 56 trucks of palliatives to Benue residents, aiming to alleviate the impact of petrol subsidy removal.

In Makurdi, during the ceremony, Governor Alia assured that all Benue residents would benefit from the third phase of the state-wide palliatives. 

The subsidy removal, announced by President Bola Tinubu on May 29, prompted the allocation of N5 billion support as palliatives to all states, including food items. 

Governor Alia highlighted that the first phase involved distributing trucks of subsidized fertilizers, and the second phase included procuring and handing over 100 Toyota Hiace buses to Benue Links Transport Company.

He mentioned that a total of 21 trucks loaded with maize and 35 trucks carrying rice would be distributed as part of the initiative.

Governor Alia clarified that diverse groups, including civil servants, teachers, traditional leaders, political figures, parties, unions, associations, and other residents, would benefit from these palliatives.

Highlighting the expansive reach of the distribution, he specified that the palliatives would extend to all 276 local council wards in the state.

 Furthermore, the relief measures would encompass covering the NECO and WAEC examination fees for students in government-approved secondary schools.

Governor Alia emphasized his commitment to prioritizing the well-being of both workers and citizens, expressing gratitude to President Tinubu for the provided palliatives and assuring that the targeted individuals would indeed benefit. Earlier, Mr. Omale Omale, Chairman of the state’s palliatives distribution committee and Commissioner for Power and Transport, praised the Federal Government for its role in making these relief efforts possible.
