As part of the Black Sea grain deal, the Ukrainian government is set to ship 25,000 tonnes of Ukrainian grain to Nigeria. Ukrainian Ambassador to Turkey, Vasyl Bodnar, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the grain is presently being kept in storage there under the aegis of the World Food Program of the United Nations.

Bodnar inspected the port and the Fuat Sezgin vessel, which is expected to convey the cargo to Nigeria, stating that preparations were being made to deliver another 60 ships from other ports.

According to him, “During the Black Sea Grain Initiative, this grain was delivered in bulk from one of the ports in Ukraine.

“It is now being held in Turkey under the aegis of the United Nations World Food Program. It is critical for us to work with the World Food Program to send grain to countries like Nigeria.”

The grains are expected to arrive in Nigeria in about a month.

Geoffrey Onyema and Mohammad Abubakar, Nigeria’s ministers of Foreign Affairs and Agriculture, had signed the “Grains from Ukraine Project” in Abuja earlier in January.
